Greg Presmanes is in charge of the firm's Workers' Compensation department. He has been practicing insurance defense law since 1973. Although he has defended all types of general liability claims, he specializes in the defense of workers' compensation claims, including heart attacks, strokes, and other vascular injuries, death cases, psychiatric and psychological disorders, environmental exposure, infectious and occupational diseases, localized and central nervous system disorders, fibromyalgia, reflex sympathetic dystrophy (also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome), herniated spinal discs, nerve injuries and repetitive injuries such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Cubital Tunnel Syndrome, DeQuervain's Syndrome and Epicondylitis.
He is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education seminars throughout the State of Georgia and across the country. His numerous articles on continuing legal education topics, which he has taught at such seminars, have been published by the American Bar Association, Georgia Institute for Continuing Legal Education, and the Atlanta and Georgia Bar Associations. He also teaches seminars and workshops on claims handling and legal issues for the employer, insurer and third party administrator.
For each year since its inception in 2004, Greg has been named by Atlanta Magazine and his peers as one of Georgia's Super Lawyers, putting him in the top 5% of lawyers in Georgia.
He is also active in the local bar associations. He is an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors for the Atlanta Bar Association. He has served on the Board of Directors for several years, and is chairman of The Atlanta Bar Association's Workers' Compensation Section Board of Directors. He participates in the Atlanta Bar Association efforts to raise money for charity, including singing and acting in the Atlanta Bar Association theater productions. In addition, he has been the Chairman of the Workers' Compensation Section of the Atlanta Claims Association , and has served as a member of its Board of Directors since 2005. He serves on the American Bar Association's Advisory Panel, a group of lawyers that informs the ABA's priorities and decisions by providing opinions about the direction of the ABA and issues facing the profession. He is the defense chair of the American Bar Association's Medicare Subcommittee. He is the Program Chairman of the American Bar Association's Centennial Convention, to be held in Boston, MA in 2011, celebrating the 100th year of workers' compensation.
Aside from litigation, his practice has included a large number of mediations. He has been trained at Pepperdine University Law School in Alternative Dispute Resolution. He has served both as an advocate and as a mediator of both liability and workers' compensation cases.
Greg's outside interests include the Renaissance Weekend, where he is a frequent speaker on insurance, workers' compensation and other legally-related topics. He is also an accomplished country music songwriter. His song, "Now I Get It," which he co-wrote with singer-songwriter David Staton, won first place in the 2003 annual songwriting competition sponsored by the Georgia Music Industry Association. Greg also loves to perform either as a singer/songwriter, or as lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist with a band.
Interested in environmental issues, he serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for GreenLaw (formerly the Georgia Center for Law in the Public Interest).
An Atlanta native, he was born here in 1948. He grew up in the Morningside area of Atlanta, graduating from Grady High School in 1966 where he met his wife, Willa, also an Atlanta native, whom he married in 1970. Their daughter, Alison Greer, was born in 1980. Greg and Willa live in Sandy Springs with their two Bichon dogs, Owen and Oliver. They love going to their home on Lake Burton, in the North Georgia Mountains.
Greg is an active member of Dunwoody United Methodist Church. For over twenty years, he has served in many leadership capacities, including serving on its Administrative Board and the Board of Trustees. .
