David Russell Smith is a member of the firm and specializes in insurance coverage and tort litigation. He rejoined Bovis, Kyle & Burch, LLC after spending approximately ten years as an assistant general counsel with ACE USA (formerly CIGNA Property & Casualty). Prior to joining CIGNA, David was an associate at Bovis, Kyle & Burch, LLC. and Karsman, Brooks, Painter & Callaway in Savannah, Georgia. At CIGNA, David managed CIGNA's Southeast Legal Service Office, which handled most of CIGNA's coverage work in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

David was born and raised in Metropolitan Atlanta. He obtained his B.S. degree from West Georgia College in 1982, majoring in political science with a minor in business. He graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1985. He has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia (Member: Tort & Insurance Practice Section) since 1985. He is also a member of the Defense Research Institute and the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association(Chairman of the Insurance Coverage Law Subcommittee). He is admitted to practice in the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Georgia and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
