Bovis, Kyle & Burch Expands Family Law Practice

On August 15, 2012, Bovis, Kyle & Burch was featured in the Daily Report for the expansion of the firm's Family Law practice. The firm added new partner, Erin Stone, and two new associates, Winfield Pollidore and Erica Byrd. In the article, Stone states that her attraction to Bovis, Kyle & Burch was the firm's growth in its Family Law practice, as well as her ability to draw on expertise from the firm's general practice groups. Pollidore, previously an IP and patent attorney, turned his talents to family law when he met Stone at a domestic relations mediation training and has practiced family law with her since. Byrd, who clerked for Bovis, Kyle & Burch, interned for the DeKalb County Child Advocacy Center and was a law clerk for DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Gregory Williams. BKB Family Law Significant Custody Win for Father

Father and Mother with a 1 year old son had decided to divorce. One month after they "discussed" divorce, Mother told Father they were "now" divorced. Father could not understand how they could be divorced when he had never seen a Complaint for Divorce, was never served, never signed any documents, and never attended any Court hearings. Father went to his County to retrieve the record and saw that his name had been forged to all divorce pleadings. Father saw that Mother had obtained custody for herself of the minor child, had obtained an Order of child support for Father to pay (which Father did not even know about) and had obtained an Order in which Father was to pay all marital debt. Father hired Attorney Marilyn Kapaun from BKB Family Law to overturn the divorce and then represent him in a valid divorce action in which Father sought custody of the minor child. BKB served Mother with a Motion to Set Aside the Divorce Decree, and Mother absconded to another state with the minor child. Our firm represented Father at an Emergency Hearing where the Judge ordered the Mother to return the child to the jurisdiction under penalty of incarceration pursuant to our Emergency Order. We represented Father regarding the Set Aside of the original divorce decree. Attorney Kapaun obtained an Order in which Mother was found to have signed Father's name to all pleadings and this was submitted to the local police to pursue Mother criminally for forgery and fraud. The original divorce was set aside. Attorney Kapaun represented Father at two probable cause hearings against the Mother for forgery and fraud, and the Municipal found probable cause to arrest Mother for forgery in the first degree, a felony. Mother was arrested a second time. Attorney Kapaun represented Father in the new divorce action and prevailed in obtaining custody for this Father.

BKB Attorneys Judge 2011 Emory Moot Court Society's Civil Rights and Liberties

Attorneys Charles Medlin and Marilyn Bardie-Kapaun judged the 2011 Emory Moot Court Society's Civil Rights and Liberties Competition held at Emory School of Law October 14-16, 2011. Thirty two law schools from across the country competed in this year's event.

Congratulations to three Bovis, Kyle and Burch LLC attorneys that were selected by their peers to Georgia Trend magazine's 'Legal Elite' for 2010. The BKB attorneys honored are C. Sam Thomas (Governmental Affairs), Charles M. Medlin (Family Law) and Anne-Marie Shipe (Labor and Employment Law). Christina Gulas addresses the Atlanta Bar Association on Family Law Topics

Christina Gulas was a speaker at the Atlanta Bar Associations' Annual Middle Income Divorce Series on November 17, 2010. She presented a Family Law case update with Sarah McCormack of Kessler, Schwarz & Solomiany, P.C. Speakers at the seminar included top-notch family law practitioners as well as local trial court judges.

Georgia Trend Magazine Names Four Partners from Bovis, Kyle & Burch, LLC as 2009 Georgia's "Legal Elite"

Georgia Trend magazine's 2009 "Legal Elite" edition came out recently and we are proud to announce that four of our attorneys were named in various practices: Steven J. Kyle - General Practice & Trial Law; Charles M. Medlin - Family Law; Scott Busby - Labor & Employment Law; Ronald F. Negin - Personal Injury Law. Mr. Kyle was honored as one of the fifty seven trial lawyers chosen as the legal elite in the general practice area in the state of Georgia. Mr. Medlin was honored as one of the thirty three domestic relations lawyers identified as the legal elite in the famiy law area in the state of Georgia. Mr. Busby was selected as one of sixty five labor and employment attorneys state wide to receive the Legal Elite honor.
